Creating aliases for the names of nursing facilities in your DocNow EHR can provide several operational, legal, and workflow benefits. Reasons include:

1. Standardization

Facilities often have long, complex, or inconsistent names across different systems and documents (e.g., "Sunrise Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center" vs. "Sunrise Rehab SNF"). Aliases help ensure that clinicians and staff use a uniform facility name, reducing confusion and duplicate entries.

2. Logistics

Sometimes facility names reference a neighboring town or county, not the one it is geographically located in. Creating an alias helps your team plan clearly.

3. Reporting

Facility systems often involve hierarchies and sub-groups that are not noted in their names. Aliases can help organize these groups in your DocNow EHR for aggregate reporting on regions or contract types.

4. Billing

Payors may require specific facility name formats for claims submissions. An alias system ensures the correct name is used in billing records.
