Tags

Purpose

This article provides education about the function and configuration of Tags within DocNow. 

Audience

DocNow users and administrators. 

Overview

Tags are applied to patients within DocNow. Providers and Administrators can use tags for the following: 

• Tagging patients for informational purposes
• Automation for CPT codes for tagged patients
• Automation for CPT modifiers for tagged patients
• Automation for CPT Place of Service (POS) for tagged patients

Admin Set Up 

Navigate to the Tags tab of your Practice Settings

Adding and Editing Tags

To add a new tag select Add Tag within the Tags interface. To edit an existing tag use the edit icon found next to each tag. 

Name

Choose a name for your tag. 

Phrase

A phrase will be created automatically after you have selected a name. 

Color

Choose the color of your tag. 

Phrase Text

This optional text can give the tag dot phrase functionality. When a user applies the tag using the Phrase in the body of a note the Phrase Text will insert into the note in addition to applying the Tag to the patient. 

Add Default Place of Service (POS) 

Adding a default Place of Service will automatically apply that Place of Service to any CPT code within the Charge Capture interface of a tagged patient. 

Only one POS can be selected per tag. 

Add Default Modifier

Adding a default modifier will automatically apply that modifier to any CPT code within the Charge Capture interface of a tagged patient. 

Multiple modifiers can be selected per tag. 

Add CPT

Adding a default CPT Code will automatically apply that CPT code within the Charge Capture interface of a tagged patient for every encounter. 

Only one CPT can be selected per tag. 

Tags User Settings

Navigate to the Settings tab within Tags to choose which user types can apply tags to patients.  

User Workflow

To apply a tag to a patient select the +Tag icon next to their name on a Census or Patient Practice List. 

Note: Only three tags may be used on a given patient at once. 

Alternatively, you may add a tag by using the associated phrase within a note. Text from the Tag Phrase Text will inserted into the note and the tag will be applied to the patient. 

The Tag Phrase Text may be used an a drop down selection option to apply a tag through a drop down within a note. 

Example Use Cases

• Designating a patient as skilled or long term care and applying the correct place of service 
• Designating a patient as hospice and applying the correct modifier
